Circulating our energy
To avoid wasting our energy and resources, Quebecers have ideas to spare! We imagine generating electricity from waste or biomass. The waste heat released by factories and data centers could be used to heat greenhouses where we could grow fruits and vegetables all year long. One thing is certain: we’re inspired by the principles of a circular economy!

Many Québec companies want to have a significant and positive impact on the environment.
To contribute to Québec’s development, these companies are developing innovative technologies and implementing concrete actions for the future.
Ferme d’Hiver, a company that specializes in greenhouse growing, has developed a technology that may help pave the way to food self-sufficiency in Québec. The company grows winter strawberries by reproducing sunlight, rain and wind with leading-edge systems powered by our green, affordable energy. In addition, the excess heat generated from growing strawberries is recovered for other crops. This helps decrease the use of fossil fuels by replacing them with clean energy, thereby helping to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 80%.
Ferme d’Hiver is committed to ensuring the sustainable development of food resources while protecting the planet. It’s a mission we endorse and that’s why we supported the company in its efforts through our Efficient Solutions Program and our Efficient Farming Products Program.
Meat processing company Olymel is a leader in its industry when it comes to energy efficiency. Despite having significant energy needs for its heating and cooling operations, Olymel is committed to consuming energy more wisely and reducing its GHG emissions.
Thanks to our financial assistance, Olymel is also among the first in Québec’s agri-food industry to install efficient heat pumps powered by the heat released from its plant—an innovation our experts encouraged.
