Québec company Ferme d’Hiver grows Québec strawberries in the middle of January. It’s secret? A leading-edge technology it developed that paves the way to food self-sufficiency in Québec: vertical farming. With this technology, the company is able to maximize available growing areas and increase off-season fruit and vegetable production capacity at the lowest possible cost, while respecting the environment.
To carry out this project and ensure the profitability of its production, the young company needed access to clean, affordable and renewable energy—our hydropower. Through Hydro-Québec’s programs, the company received financial assistance and support from our experts. In a few years, Ferme d’Hiver wants to make Québec a leader in off-season food production.
With the Efficient Solutions Program, Hydro-Québec offers financial assistance to help local businesses of all sizes lower their operating costs and reduce their carbon footprint.
By making their energy system more efficient, the businesses pay less for electricity and are therefore more competitive and profitable.
